I used to go to Alvin's house about 20 minutes before class started. With about three minutes before first period we would race down Ilene toward school [he usually had a bagel or doughnut in one hand, books in the other] - dodging the cars on Curtis to get to school on time. In the eleventh grade he was the sixth fastest runner in the City at 800 yards [was it because he "practiced" every day?]. But in the twelth grade he quit track to be on the football team - "you could attract more girls!" [[Sexist!]]
