Honorably discharged from the U.S. Navy. After washing out of flight training, I served on the flight deck of the USS Forrestal, the world's largest warship when it was launched in 1955. Finally graduated from Cal Poly-Pomona in 1965. Worked at newspapers in Honolulu and up & down California. Finished up after 30 years at the San Jose Mercury News. Taught journalism at Shanghai International Studies University in 2006 (loved it).
What would we be surprised to know about you?

Enjoy target shooting and gun collecting.

School Story:

Loved playing football for Jim Kelley, George Grove and Stan Mullin. I learned more about life and survival from them than from any class I ever enrolled in. A shoulder separation at Wayne State ended my football career.

Sam was one of my football teammates during the 1956 & 1957 football seasons. He was a guy who always gave a 110% effort in every game. When you played with Sam, you were always a little taller, heavier and a lot better.

Hi Sam, remember me? We played football during our junior & senior years. Since 1963 I've lived in Huntington Beach, La Habra, San Jose and Morgan Hill (currently).
